Jim is a chartered health and safety professional with over 35 years’ experience in the construction industry. His career progressed through construction and project management before specialising in health and safety. Until recently Jim worked for Multiplex Construction Europe joining them in 2003 to head up the health and safety team for the delivery of the new Wembley Stadium project before joining the senior management team. As Health and Safety Director, Jim led the way in developing and successfully implementing the company health and safety strategy, implementing a number of key initiatives which has seen industry leading health and safety performance. An industry influencer through active membership of a number of health and safety working groups including various Build UK forums and the CPA as well as leading change through engagement with several academic institutions including Greenwich University, Imperial College, University College London and Reading University on a variety of research projects to facilitate evidence based innovations. Collaboration with Professor Edwin Galea and the Fire Safety Engineering Group at Greenwich University has provided the opportunity through an IOSH funded research project to challenge the traditional, often perception based approach to managing the risks from fire on construction sites.
